We do however still have some of the 2008 (Click here) and 2009 (Click here) Airfix Catalogues. Again, these are full of interesting models and you could pass many a happy hour or two browsing through them. There is also the point that in the future they would become somewhat collectors items so maybe they should be put away for posterity. We have discounted the price for the 2008 and 2009 catalogues to £1.99 each giving you a saving of £2.30 which only makes them more attractive.
New Product: a bottle with a difference!

Glass Bottle and Screw Top Lid with Integrated Pippette 100 ml (tmc00021)
This bottle is an excellent addition to anyone's workbench, being of suitable size at 100 ml, made of glass and with an absolutely watertight plastic and rubber lid. It is primarily intended for use as a convenient thinner solution dropper, but it can also be used for storing pre-mixed, pre-diluted paints particularly if destined for airbrushing. One of the things about plastic kit painting that often niggles me is the need to add very small quantities of diluting solution to paint on a palette, particularly when a blend I have created dries too quickly or when I just need a tiny bit extra colour and don't want to blend a whole new batch of the colour again. All one needs in such situations is a few drops of thinners to get the paint moving around again!
This bottle screw top lid with an integrated pipette is my solution. I fill it 9/10s with my favorite paint thinners and whenever I need an emergency addition of thinner I simply unscrew it and drop just the right amount of thinner onto the paint, which I then mix in with a brush.
One of the great advantages is that the thinners stays pure and clean as only the pipette is used to dispense the thinner. My old method of dipping a paintbrush into a bottle of thinners obviously pollutes all the liquid with the paint, which quickly becomes too dirty.
While the amount of liquid that can be stored in the pipette is quite modest (and ideal for dropping small amounts of liquid), the size of the bottle at 100 ml means it is also a very useful storage vessel for pre-mixed paint blends (to desired colour or viscosity), especially if using an airbrush. Simply use the pipette to quickly replenish an airbrush reservoir in the middle of spraying.

There have been some rumours circulating the forums that this is going to be delayed until 2010 as well, however I have heard nothing from my contact at Hornby. In fact I would venture to suggest that the builds currently being undertaken by a luck y selected few would suggest that it is indeed on schedule... Check out the article below. I will be publishing a list of all the new items in a few days but in the meantime you might want to have a look before I do because we had so many kits to get in that we only got one or two of each. Most importantly they are all at the extended sale price. I very much doubt you'll get them cheaper elsewhere. This sale is going to end very shortly so if you want to get recently released kits at great prices check now before the prices go up again. Back-ordering: What should customers do if an item on the site is not in stock?

Because our inventory contains such a large range of kits it is difficult to make sure that we have items in stock for each all the time. Nevertheless one thing that you can always do is request that we order one or more in for you the next time we place an order with the supplier. How should you do this? Very easily; near the bottom of the product detail page there is a link that states: Question about the product. Simply click on this and it will take you to a page that loads the product information together with a number of text boxes to allow you to send a message to us.
All you have to do in the case of a back-order request is ask us to order one of them in when we next place a stock order with our supplier. We will email you once it is in stock so that you can go online and buy it.

This material, designed for create model railway dioramas, can be used in plastic kit dioramas to recreate a turfed or mossy surface. There are various application techniques however the most common is to put down a coat of PVA glue or a layer of adhesive spray upon which the turf is sprinkled. After a long time deliberating I have finally ordered in some diorama building supplies and creating the new category in the catalogue. Most of you will be very familiar with the brand and the perhaps also the products. At the moment there is a selection of scale gravels, rocks, tufts, turfs, foliage and a lonely tree!

A few new Airfix kits have come in. Below is the list and link to each one in our online store.
WWII British Paratroops by Airfix (A02701) 1:32
As the war approached it was seen that having the ability to drop elite troops behind enemy lines would be a major tactical advantage. By the end of December 1940, everything was in place to create the British 1st Airborne Division whose distinctive mark was to be the maroon beret and a shoulder patch with Bellerophon astride the winged horse Pegasus.WWII US Infantry by Airfix (A02703) 1:32
The US infantry regiment of World War II was a powerful, flexible organization and was the core of the infantry division. During the Battle of the Bulge in late 1944 / early 1945 the infantry suffered high casualties, but managed to turn back the final push by the German army.WWII British 8th Army by Airfix (A02707) 1:32
British 8th Army was one of the best-known military units in World War II, fighting in the North African and Italian campaigns. At the beginning of November 1942 the 8th Army defeated Rommel in the decisive Second Battle of El Alamein, pursuing the defeated Axis army across Libya, eventually leading to the Axis forces to abandon North Africa.BAE Red Arrows Hawk by Airfix (A02005) 1:72
A brand new tool for the famous Red Arrows Aerobatic Display Team's Hawk. This features the new 2008 scheme the team currently fly in.Messerschmitt BF109G by Airfix (A02029) 1:72
Over 12,000 of the "Gustav" G-6 were built from 1943 to 1944 and were armed with two formidable 13mm machine guns, enabling the top Luftwaffe aces to record in some cases hundreds of "kills".WWII DUKW by Airfix (A02316) 1:76
The DUKW (popularly pronounced "duck") is a six-wheel-drive amphibious truck that was designed for transporting goods and troops over land and water and for use approaching and crossing beaches in amphibious attacks. The DUKW was used in landings in the Mediterranean, Pacific, on the D-Day beaches of Normandy, Operation Husky (the invasion of Sicily), and during Operation Plunder (the crossing of the river Rhine).Bae Hawk 128/132 by Airfix (A03073) 1:72
The Hawk 128 is the new Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) for the RAF and Royal Navy. The Mk.128 includes modern LCD displays instead of conventional instrumentation, and allows preparation for flying modern fighter aircraft, particularly the all "glass" Typhoon. The Hawk Mk.132 trainer is being produced for the Indian Air Force, the first being delivered in 2007.English Electric Canberra B(I)8 by Airfix (A05038) 1:72
The B(I)8 was introduced to fill the role of a night-intruder bomber or interdictor flying low-level missions in the European theatre. In the bomber role, the B(I)8 only served with the RAF's Strike Squadrons in Germany. In its bomber configuration, this Canberra mark was part of the UK's Nuclear Strike Force and carried a US made weapon (Project E).English Electric Canberra PR9 by Airfix (A05039) 1:72
As well as a RAF bomber, large numbers of Canberras were ordered for photo reconnaissance duties culminating in the PR-9. This was unarmed, carried seven cameras under the fuselage, had an increased wing area, and was propelled by the powerful Avon jet engines, giving it a much higher operational ceiling. To ease production, the PR-9 was built by Short Brothers at Belfast, entering service in January 1960. It remained in RAF service into the start of the 21st Century.Fleet Air Arm 100th Anniversary by Airfix (A50105) 1:72
The history of naval flying is one of the most remarkable over the last 100 years, and from the first flight by the airship 'The Mayfly' in 1909, the use of aircraft in naval warfare has been crucial. This set includes an 8 page booklet, 18 acrylic paints, 2 paint brushes and a poly cement.Apollo Saturn V by Airfix (A11170) 1:144
The Saturn V was the largest operational launch vehicle ever produced. Standing over 363 feet high with its Apollo Spacecraft payload, it produced over 7.5 million pounds of thrust at lift-off. It enabled the crew of Apollo 11 and subsequent Apollo crews to leave the pull of the Earth's gravity and reach the Moon. And don't forget to make sure you add the 2009 Airfix Catalogue to your library. We still have a few remaining.

Are you gripped by the Brawn GP story this season like me? It is quite simply the fairy tale of the year and it seemed a no brainer that Airfix should be making a plastic kit of the F1 car as a follow up to the Scalextric kit they released. But alas, I recently discovered that they have no plans to issue any more F1 cars, let alone the Brawn GP car.Not sure what the demand would be for such a kit, but it seems to me that there must be a not insignificant contingent of collectors and model makers who wouldn't mind parting with a few bob to get their hands on one.
If you are one of those people, perhaps a visit to the Airfix site to petition them!
New Product! Pack of 5 Clear Plastic Rods. Extremely versatile.

This new product is essentially a cocktail stirrer but for modellers there is so much more promise. This clear plastic rod can be used for a variety of purposes; the inspiration came from seeing an aircraft display where the scale aircraft model was elevated off the base of the display by a clear plastic rod. I immediately decided to source some and add them to the catalogue.
The image with the Hellcat provides an example of how it can be used and what the end result might look like. It looks pretty good. Certainly as good as sitting on a display base and certainly essential for giving the impression of flying.
In addition to this use, these clear rods can also be used as paint stirrers or as budget sculpting tools. Because the plastic is so clear it could even be gently melted and used to recreate small clear parts such as landing lights or as an alternative to stretched sprue (see image below).

The plastic is stiffer than sprue typically is and also seems to have quite a low melting temperature so is excellent for creating stretched sprue type aerials and other types of rods that might be used for scale kits and dioramas. While it is flexible once cool it is relatively strong as well.
When hot and soft it is quite easy to twist without breaking and thus creating a rope twine effect. Another property is that thin ends appear to curl readily, thus offering the opportunity for other scratch building ideas.

An endorsement for Xtracrylix from an old school modeller...

I found a resounding endorsement for Xtracrylix paints on a discussion group the other day. Just goes to show you are never to old to learn new tricks! On the subject of Xtracrylix I thought I would elaborate a little more about the paints and then I found this article and I figured there was no point in reinventing the wheel. It was published some time ago (2004) in Armorama.com but is just as applicable today. Overall the verdict was excellent and they continue to expand the range of colours.

We have just learned from a reliable source that Revell have decided to discontinue their range of Enamel Airbrush Paints. No reason was given but I presume that it relates to sales and the popularity of acrylics for airbrushing.Nevertheless, it is a shame because they are an excellent product. If you are a fan of them this may be your last chance to stock up. We do have a fair number of them still on the shelf so hurry while can still buy them. Click on the link below.
