Paint Conversion Tool
This paint conversion tool is designed to be a basic cross
reference tool to assist you in finding equivalent colour
shades from different brands. This could be for a
number of reasons:
-
You may have
bought a model from a brand which recommends a
manufacturer's paints you are not fond of
-
You wish to try
out another brand of paint
-
You cannot source
a certain colour from a recommended or preferred
brand and need to find an alternative
The tool uses the Humbrol colour coding system as the
starting point. Below are some notes how to use it
effectively.
-
You can search for a Humbrol paint
code (e.g. 11) to find equivalent
paint codes from other manufacturers.
-
You can search for a non-Humbrol brand and
find the Humbrol equivalent. This can be a code or a keyword
depending on the brand's referencing system. Revell for
instance use a number system whereas Games Workshop uses
a naming system.
-
If there is a Humbrol
paint code returned as a result of the above type of
search you can then expand the results to show results
from other manufacturers by searching for that Humbrol
paint. i.e. If you search for the Humbrol code for
Revell 99 the tool will return Humbrol 56. Then do a new
search for Humbrol 56 and this will return all the other
brand's paints considered equivalent.
-
For an idea of
coverage: 1 droplet of paint is roughly equivalent to
0.02 ml, therefore 50 droplets will equate to 1 ml and
700 droplets a 14 ml tinlet. In terms of coverage 1 drop
should be enough to cover 3.8 cm2, 32 drops
to cover 125 cm2, and 50 drops 190 cm2
(which of course equates to an area 10cm by 19cm)
